Amy Blackshaw, chief executive at Nelson Policies, talks about the company’s entry for the MGA of the Year award

1. Why did you put yourselves forward for the MGA of the Year category?

We put ourselves forward for the Insurance Times MGA of the Year award 2024 to coincide with the delivery of a significant number of achievements which have come to fruition during the year.

Amy Blackshaw, chief executive at Nelson Policies

The compelling history enjoyed by Nelson Policies at Lloyd’s, coupled with a service led proposition, has produced a platform from which the whole team have delivered not just an exceptional range of new enhanced products, but also embedded trading relationships with a number of new, highly rated capacity providers, all of which are already delivering enhanced opportunities to our broker partners.

2. What do you think makes your entry stand out and why should you win the award?

Being independent, in a market where consolidation has resulted in the growth of a significant number of larger entities, enables Nelsons to deliver market leading products, underwritten by a highly skilled and motivated team, who constantly deliver first class risk transfer solutions to brokers on behalf of their clients.

Couple this with the exhaustive work undertaken by Nelson’s business development managers, who tirelessly work with our broker panel to fulfil the ever-developing requirements of their clients, produces a level of excellence we are all incredibly proud of.

3. What would winning this award mean to you and your firm?

Winning the award for which we are entered would be a fitting accolade for an empowered team who have taken increasing levels of responsibility to mentor and develop the skills required by new members of the ever-expanding organisation to the benefit of both producing brokers and insurers.

The recognition of the hard work deployed across all areas of the business over forty years, by an external body, would reinforce the central Nelson’s mantra that excellence is never an accident – it is the result of high intention, effort and execution.
