Pauline Brookes, head of corporate risks at Kingfisher, talks about the company’s entry for the Commercial Lines Broker of the Year award

1. Why did you put yourselves forward for the Commercial Lines Broker of the Year category?

Kingfisher’s Motor Trade insurance team is a new name in the industry, but we are backed by a company providing specialist insurance offerings and have assembled a team that we believe is the best in the business when it comes to supporting the motor trade.

For us, it’s about doing things the right way – focusing on our clients and the unique nature of every business in this sector and visiting all of them to ensure they have insurance and risk management solutions to meet their needs.

It can’t be done from an office – it needs a traditional broking service.

2. What do you think makes your entry stand out and why should you win the award?

We’ve built up a book of account managed motor trade business from scratch that’s now worth over £8m GWP, in a competitive marketplace, in less than 20 months.

We’ve got our name in front of motor trade businesses, trade associations and business partners. We’ve also built the trust of insurers and forged new relationships.

The motor trade team is precisely that – a team – with everyone using their experience and pulling together to listen to our clients, ensuring they have the support they need to thrive. We’re proud to have earned the trust of everyone we work with.

3. What would winning this award mean to you and your firm?

It would be a huge acknowledgement that traditional broking and personal relationships are still vital to supporting commercial businesses.

We would be humbled to be acknowledged by our industry peers for placing our clients at the heart of all that we do and thinking differently about service delivery.

We’ve gone back to the future, if you like, turning the tide on online, transactional business that can leave clients underinsured or lacking appropriate cover and working alongside them as business partners.
