Gary Herring, partner at Keoghs, talks about the company’s entry for the Challenger of the Year award
1. Why did you put yourselves forward for the category?
Keoghs’ tactical credit hire team are leaders in their field and, in collaboration with our insurer partners, have achieved great things over the last 12 to 18 months.
The team was initially launched as an embryonic pilot project in 2019, with the intention of addressing sharp practice and exaggerated claims emanating from non-GTA credit hire organisations.
Since then, the team has had a genuinely disruptive impact – delivering game changing legal precedents, outstanding indemnity spend performance and growing exponentially as a result.
These achievements align perfectly to the challenger of the year criteria and are, hopefully, just what the judges are looking for!
2. What do you think makes your entry stand out and why should you win the award?
Whenever we embark on an initiative in collaboration with our insurer partners, we have a clear vision for what we will achieve and meticulously plan how we will get there.
This strategic approach has had a game changing impact on the credit hire landscape – in Holt v Allianz we set a precedent that credit hire organisations (CHOs) must provide key documents before proceedings are issued, thereby reducing litigation and protecting insurers and their customers from premature litigation.
Further, the culmination of a later initiative in Pereira and others v Direct Accident Management Limited will assist insurers in recovering legal costs from CHOs.
3. What would winning this award mean to you and your firm?
Winning would be fantastic recognition of the team’s achievements over the last 12 to 18 months, but more importantly, would recognise their tireless hard work and dedication to achieving the very best outcomes for our clients and the industry.
This award is particularly prestigious given the calibre of the judging panel and the stringent judging process, so everyone involved with Keoghs credit hire would be delighted to bring back the award on 4 December!
