Benedict Harper Drew, specialist manager of the fraud and financial crime team at DWF, talks about the company’s entry for the Excellence in Claims Technology – Claims Management Service Provider award

1. Why did you put yourselves forward for the Excellence in Claims Technology – Claims Management Service Provider category?

DWF has been truly innovative in its investment in innovating legal services to leverage telematics data optimising insurance performance across motor claims from small to major loss – specifically in relation to identification of fraud claims and using telematics to assist in liability or causation disputes, saving clients substantial indemnity spend.

2. What do you think makes your entry stand out and why should you win the award?

Insurers have been affected by the increased use of telematics in vehicles. When this is coupled with unintended consequences of a major piece of legislation – such as the Whiplash Reforms, where we are seeing an increase in adverse claims behaviours – specifically in the area of claiming additional injuries or extensive layering, all serving to increase claim values.

The use of telematics data to defeat these claims and identify fraud at the earliest has come into its own in being able to assist insurers in identification of adverse behaviours internally.

3. What would winning this award mean to you and your firm?

Winning this award would mean recognition for DWF’s unique development of a telematics service where telematics data is screened to identify risks and manage insurers’ claims more efficiently with market leading results, saving insurers millions in indemnity spend and obtaining 30% increased repudiations in 2023 alone.
