Tim Johnson, partner at Browne Jacobson, talks about the company’s entry for the Business Partner of the Year award

1. Why did you put yourselves forward for the Business Partner of the Year category?

We have been leading the conversation on insurance policy simplification for a number of years and we continue to evolve our products to ensure they stay at the forefront of the movement to create customer-centric products.

With the ever increasing focus on customer vulnerability, customer outcomes and customer understanding – led by Consumer Duty – our product could not be me more topical.

In the past 12 months, we have taken our product to the next level by offering robust large-scale customer testing and ‘adding numbers to words’ by becoming the first law firm to become an accredited Plain Numbers practitioner.

2. What do you think makes your entry stand out and why should you win the award?

We are making a real-world positive impact on the insurance sector and its customers and our work is backed by robust empirical evidence.

Linguistics professors have independently verified that we routinely improve the reading age of wordings by over 10 years, making them accessible to over 40 million more UK adults than the original.

Customer testing with 1,000s of customers has demonstrated an improvement in customers’ ability to understand key aspects of their cover by over 50%.

Our work has positively impacted over 5m UK insurance customers for more than 30 insurers – including many household names.

3. What would winning this award mean to you and your firm?

Winning one of the most highly respected industry awards would be real recognition of the transformational positive impact our products have had on the insurance market and its customers.

Winning this award will also help us spread the word more broadly across the insurance sector not just about our products, but also as to the positive improvements that can be made for the benefit of regulated firms and policyholders alike.
