Irene Rodger, casualty claims strategy executive lead at Aviva, discusses the insurer’s joint entry with DWF Law into the Claims Partner of the Year award

1. Why did you put yourselves forward for the Claims Partner of the Year category?

Costs are a fundamental part of any claim. Millions in indemnity spend are incurred by insurers on legal costs annually.

We have seen a migration of adverse behaviours from motor move into the employers’ liability and personal liability market as some claimant solicitors seek to replace lost revenue through sharp practise and a disregard for pre-action protocols (PAPs).

These behaviours, unless tackled, add additional burdens to UK businesses and drive inflation.

2. What do you think makes your entry stand out and why should you win the award?

Aviva and DWF have worked together in 2023 to focus on controlling these inflationary pressures to minimise the impact on Aviva customers.

This collaborative approach between Aviva and DWF has been one of the key methods we employed to tackle adverse behaviours.

3. What would winning this award mean to you and your firm?

Winning this award would mean that we receive recognition for this unique initiative, which has resulted in massive indemnity savings for Aviva – specifically, the average amount saved by Aviva is more than £6,500 per case and, for DWF, £8,100 per case. Extrapolated over 1000 claims, this would equate to £6.9m.
