The new appointee will be based in London to support growth agenda

US-based insurtech Maptycs has hired Daniel Grimwood-Bird to be its new chief revenue officer, to lead its UK and European expansion.

Grimwood-Bird, who will operate out of London, stepped into his new role in November 2024. In this position, he will head up the insurtech’s sales and marketing function, as well as look to steer Maptycs’ expanision into Europe.

In a LinkedIn post published in November 2024, Grimwood-Bird said he was ”incredibly proud” to be joining the organisation, admitting to being “a huge fan” of Maptycs chief executive Jacqueline Legrand and chief product officer Ernest Legrand, who both co-founded the business.

He added: ”I’m privileged to have their trust to lead the sales and marketing functions and continue to build on the great work they and the team have been doing.”

Other key staff at Maptycs includes board member Dawn Miller, she is also Lloyd’s chief commercial officer .

Supporting better decision-making

Founded in 2016, Maptycs provides a geospatial risk assessment platform for insurers, reinsurers, MGAs and brokers, to help manage property risk exposures, climate risk and real-time weather events.

Before joining Maptycs last month, Grimwood-Bird worked as the head of sales and marketing at McKenzie Intelligence Services for just over two years.

Other previous jobs he held included a three-month tenure as a senior sales manager at Instanda in 2022 and nearly two years spent as a strategic insurance account manager at ICEYE, between 2020 and 2022.

Grimwood-Bird said: “I’ll be on both sides of the pond so if you’re interested in what we’re building or just curious on how we can help insurers, reinsurers, brokers and risk managers to make better decisions, I’m always open to a coffee.”
