’For those where the policy trigger depth has been met, we’ve shared that detail and are already processing the claims,’ says chief underwriting officer
Managing general agent (MGA) FloodFlash has been working with brokers to help clients that are “suffering from the impacts of overflowing rivers”.
That was according to Ian Bartholomew, chief underwriting officer at FloodFlash, who made the statement after Storm Henk left homes and roads flooded over the last week.
The storm first struck on Tuesday (2 January 2024), with heavy rain and strong winds having continued throughout the week.
Bartholomew told Insurance Times that FloodFlash had already contacted brokers in cases where its sensors recorded flooding at their client’s property.
”For those where the policy trigger depth has been met, we’ve shared that detail and are already processing the claims to get them paid fast,” he added.
“It’s a great advantage of sensor-based claims because brokers can keep their clients informed and everyone can stay safe, not having to visit their property whilst it is inaccessible.”
Worst hit sectors
This came after the ABI issued a statement last week (5 January 2024) to reassure homeowners and businesses hit by the storm that insurers were ready to offer their support.

Bartholomew said clients that had been ”worst effected” include those in the sports, leisure and hospitality industries.
”January can be a challenging time for those sectors without catastrophic flooding,” he added.
“Our sensors have been registering flooding in affected areas up and down the country as, again, UK businesses are suffering from the impacts of overflowing rivers.
”In some cases, our sensors have registered flood depths in excess of two metres at client properties.
”As always, we’re working hard to ensure that the data our sensors provides means that the majority, if not all, of our claims will be paid within the next week.”
