’This is an unimaginable grief to shoulder,’ says family

The family of Jonathan and Judy Bloomer have described them as an “inspiration to many” following their deaths after a yacht sank off the coast of Sicily.

The couple were among six people missing after the Bayesian sank in a storm on Monday (19 August 2024).

Their bodies have now been recovered from the shipwreck.

“We are grieving for our loved ones and all of those affected by the tragedy,” the Bloomer family said.

“We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the emergency services and everyone who helped tirelessly in this rescue operation.

“Our parents were incredible people and an inspiration to many, but first and foremost, they were focused on and loved their family and spending time with their new grandchildren.”

’Unimaginable grief’

Jonathan Bloomer had been appointed by Hiscox as its chairman back in 2023.

Judy Bloomer, meanwhile, was a trustee and long-time supporter of gynaecological cancer research charity the Eve Appeal.

”Together for five decades, our only comfort is that they are still together now,” the Bloomer family said.

“This is an unimaginable grief to shoulder. Our only ask is that our family’s privacy is respected at this time.”

Other bodies recovered include that of British technology entrepreneur Mike Lynch, US lawyer Christopher Morvillo and his wife Neda Morvillo, who is a jewellery designer.

Mr Lynch’s 18-year-old daughter Hannah remains missing.
