’This is an industry where relationships matter and I already know and respect the people here,’ says appointee

MGA Arkel has appointed insurance veteran Steve Lewis as its new chairman.

Lewis, who brings more than 35 years of industry experience, currently serves as chief executive at Pro Insurance Solutions.

His career has also seen him be the chief executive of UK and international at RSA, as well as chief executive of UK GI and shared services at Zurich.

He has also held board and non-executive positions at multiple firms and trade bodies, including the ABI and Pool Re.

Speaking about his new role, Lewis said: “This is an industry where relationships matter and I already know and respect the people here. Arkel is an ambitious MGA with a distinctive market position – beautifully niche yet highly effective.

“In just six years, it has attracted top-tier talent and built strong, loyal capacity partnerships through its disciplined underwriting and commitment to data and technology-driven innovation.

“I look forward to leveraging my experience to shape Arkel’s strategy and chart a course for growth.”

Growth

His appointment comes after Arkel reached £42m in gross written premium (GWP) in 2024.

The MGA is aiming to hit £100m GWP within the next five years.

Brendan Devine, chief executive at Atec, which owns Arkel, said: “We have assembled a formidable leadership team poised to drive the group’s continued expansion.

“2025 marks a pivotal year for Atec – we now have both the talent and investment in place to execute our strategic vision.”
