New appointee is ’thrilled’ to join insurer and hopes to make ’positive contribution’
Charity-backed insurer Ecclesiastical has confirmed Dave Carey as the new managing director for its intermediary business, effective from February 2025.
Carey will succeed Adrian Saunders, who retired earlier this year after nearly a decade in the role.
Carey, who has 25 years of industry experience, will join Ecclesiastical from Allianz, where he has worked as managing director of mid corporate UK for the past year and a half.
Prior to his tenure at Allianz, Carey spent more than 20 years at insurer Zurich in UK-based commercial roles, as well as led Aviva’s mid-market and specialty lines business between 2018 and 2023.
Richard Coleman, managing director for UKGI at Ecclesiastical, said Carey’s appointment provided a significant boost for the insurer.
He continued: “I am delighted we have appointed Carey as our new managing director of intermediary.
“He brings a great track record and wide-ranging experience to this role, which is crucial in helping us to achieve our growth targets.
“I know Carey is as motivated as we are by our mission to double our contribution to good causes.”
Growth targets
Ecclesiastical aims to significantly expand its business, targeting growth across both its current business lines as well as striving to extend into new areas. The insurer plans to double its size in the coming years.

Coleman told Insurance Times in July 2024 that Ecclesiastical hopes to achieve £500m gross written premium (GWP) in the UK within a two to four-year timeframe and boost the firm’s charitable donations to £50m.
Carey added: “I am thrilled to be joining Ecclesiastical. The opportunity to work with Coleman and the team to help deliver on its ambitious growth targets instantly appealed.
“When combined with Ecclesiastical’s raison d’etre to give profits to good causes, the opportunity was compelling. I look forward to making a positive contribution.”
