Managing director says new appointee brings a ’great track record and wide-ranging experience to the role’

Ecclesiastical Insurance has appointed Marc Lewis as its new underwriting director for the UK.

Lewis will join the business from Aviva, where he served as chief underwriting officer for commercial lines for the last two years.

He also held roles such as lead liability underwriter and head of liability, corporate and speciality risk during his 11 years with the business.

A statement released earlier this week (2 May 2023) revealed that Lewis’ new role with Ecclesiastical will see him play a part in its “ambitious growth targets”.

He will join the specialist insurer later in 2023.

Richard Coleman, managing director of Ecclesiastical UK, said Lewis’ appointment was a “significant boost” for the business.

“I am delighted Marc is joining us as our new underwriting director,” he said.

“Marc brings a great track record and wide-ranging experience to the role.

“We have ambitious plans to grow our insurance business and our parent Benefact Group is unique in financial services in giving all its profits to charity, so we have something really special in our organisation.

”I know Marc is very motivated by our charitable purpose and is excited to join and become a key part of our growth story.”

Retirement

Lewis will replace Tony Hutchins, who is retiring later this year after almost a decade leading the underwriting team at Ecclesiastical UK.

Coleman thanked Hutchins for his “excellent service” to Ecclesiastical.

He said: “Tony has made a huge impact on our business since joining in 2014, both as an underwriter and a leader of this business.

“He will be missed by peers, colleagues and his team.

“Like many I will personally miss his counsel, personality and challenge.”
