’I look forward to working with the talented team to help drive Ecclesiastical’s growth ambitions forward,’ says appointee

Ecclesiastical has appointed James Medlicott as its new UK casualty director.

Medlicott, who is set to join in March 2025, will be responsible for helping the insurer expand its casualty portfolio over the coming years.

He will succeed Tom Taylor, who has been promoted to group head of underwriting.

Medlicott’s appointment comes during a period of expansion, with Ecclesiastical looking to double the size of its business.

The firm recently launched into the leisure and office professions sectors and is continuing to review opportunities for further expansion.

Medlicott said: “I am delighted to join Ecclesiastical at such an exciting time in its journey. The company’s strong commitment to growth, combined with its unique charitable purpose, sets it apart in the industry.

“I look forward to working with the talented team to help drive Ecclesiastical’s growth ambitions forward and deliver an exceptional proposition to clients and brokers.”

Experience

Medlicott will join from HDI Global, which he joined in July 2023 as liability manager.

He was most recently the director for liability underwriting, a role he held for the last seven months.

Before HDI Global, Medlicott spent over 19 years at Aviva, where he held a number of senior liability underwriting roles.

Marc Lewis, underwriting director at Ecclesiastical UK, said: “We are delighted to welcome Medlicott as our new UK casualty director.

“Medlicott brings a wealth of experience in the UK liability market and is joining us at a pivotal time. His appointment will support us in achieving our ambitious plans to grow our casualty portfolio over the next few years.”
