Ecclesiastical has partnered with a firm whose owners were left in a ‘tough spot’ after its underwriter pulled out of the marketplace
Ecclesiastical Insurance has partnered with Petcover Group’s Brooks Braithwaite to deliver a new scheme aimed at pet professionals, a statement released today (8 January 2023) said.
Based in Haywards Heath, insurance intermediary Brooks Braithwaite offers cover tailored for animal-related risks, including animal centres, shows, displays, dog walkers, pet sitters, kennels and catteries.
The business was established in February 1979 and acquired by insurer Petcover Group in February 2023.
Ecclesiastical stated the move evidenced its “appetite and desire to partner with specialist brokers who know and understand the risks their customers face better than anyone else”.
“Partnering with Brooks Braithwaite gives us a fantastic opportunity to expand our schemes book and to work with a specialist broker who knows their market intimately,” Ecclesiastical’s schemes and facilities director Chris Withers said.
Growth ambitions
The deal came after Petcover’s underwriter pulled out of the marketplace.
Withers said Ecclesiastical “moved quickly to support them when their underwriter pulled out, providing customers with certainty around cover despite short notice”.
“Full credit has to go to our team here at Ecclesiastical for the pace of the onboarding process,” he added.
Petcover Group chief executive Andy Pearce added that the deal saved it from a “tough spot” and that Ecclesiastical “were very supportive in getting us onboarded as quickly as possible”.
“Their expertise and knowhow shone through, particularly compared to some of the alternatives out there,” Pearce said.
Expansion
The partnership forms part of Ecclesiastical’s expansion in the schemes space as the firm looks to double the size of the business by 2026.

Back in January 2023, Ecclesiastical partnered with Brokerbility on its bricks and mortar scheme in January 2023, while the insurer also launched a digital platform with MGA iprism to offer cover for smaller not-for-profit organisations in October 2023.
In November 2023, Ecclesiastical also teamed up with Towergate Care to offer property capacity to larger home providers.
“Working with Brooks Braithwaite aligns with our own ethos of being specialists in our field,” said Withers.
“They have over 35 years of experience in providing insurance for their clients and we’re looking forward to helping them grow this scheme by listening to what these customers need and developing a long term partnership to meet those needs.”
