’We believe it has never been more important to strengthen our major and complex loss team,’ says head of major and complex loss
Davies has said it will strengthen its UK major and complex loss division as it looks to support insurers with the cost of weather-related catastrophes.
In a statement released today (23 August 2023), the insurance technology supplier said it had committed to “investing heavily” in its varied claims handling solutions for clients following incidents such as flooding and extreme heat.
Earlier this year (11 July 2023), professional services firm PwC said sustained heat, floods and heavy rainfall could see subsidence insurance payouts increase to £1.9bn by 2030.
And law firm RPC warned in July 2023 that the country needed to be better prepared for a dry summer, high temperatures and the wildfire threat those bring.
Graeme Bell, head of major and complex loss at Davies, said: “As we continue to see increased incidents of flooding and extreme heat caused by climate change in the UK, we believe it has never been more important to strengthen our major and complex loss team.”
New appointment
To help strengthen its UK major and complex loss division, the firm revealed today that it had appointed Martin Langhorst as major loss diector.

Martin, whose experience in the insurance industry spans 20 years, has joined the firm from AA Insurance, where he was head of property claims for three years.
In his new role, will be responsible for high-net-worth, subsidence and escape of oil claims in the UK.
He will report to Graeme Bell, head of major and complex loss at Davies UK and Ireland.
“Martin’s experience of handling some of the largest and most complex property claims caused by weather-related incidents will be incredibly beneficial to our insurer clients,” Bell said.
”In particular, his expertise in handling escape of water and subsidence claims will be a huge asset to our teams.”
Langhorst added: ”The firm’s culture and work-life balance notably attract the top young talent of the industry, so I am looking forward to shaping my team to be on the frontline of some of the most complex and varied claims cases, providing an excellent service for clients and their customers.”
