The first bootcamp starts on 28 November and aims to solve the industry’s lack of diversity issue
Specialist professional services and technology business Davies has today (21 November 2022) launched its Insurance Skills Bootcamp to encourage talent to join the industry.
The ten-week programme is fully funded by the Greater London Authority (GLA) and open to anyone aged 19 or above that is currently unemployed and living in Greater London.
The first bootcamp will be launched on 28 November 2022 and aims to develop candidates’ higher-level skills within the insurance sector as well as time management, presentation, interview skills and rapport building to help them secure an insurance role
Carolyn Blunt, growth and client success director at Davies, said: “The bootcamp is an excellent opportunity for our insurer clients to access a pool of diverse talent to recruit into their apprenticeship programmes.
“Traditionally, people tend to either fall into insurance or are guided into it by family members. A downside of this is that, as an industry, it lacks some diversity and that’s something we at Davies are really keen to help change and modernise.”
The news comes as insurers continue to prioritise recruiting and retaining talent in the industry following the great resignation post-pandemic.
Apprenticeship opportunities
Davies’ newly launched bootcamp also includes two elements from the Chartered Insurance Institute’s (CII) Foundation Insurance Test and IF1 Principles of Insurance as part of the bootcamp to further develop candidates’ knowledge.
If candidates pass these two units, they will be able to progress to a reduced duration Insurance Professional Level four apprenticeship scheme, therefore skipping the Level three Insurance Practitioner programme entirely.
Lisa Williams, corporate development manager at the CII, said: “The CII is delighted to be able to support Davies with their bootcamp initiative – providing learning material on how the insurance market operates and the key insurance principals.”
