Insurance Times collates advice from judges and the editorial team on how to best pitch awards entries

The Insurance Times Claims Excellence Awards 2025 are fast approaching, with the sparkling awards ceremony set for 22 May at the Royal Garden Hotel, London.

Entries to the awards are currently open and close on 28 February to allow Insurance Times’ panel of industry expert judges to look over submissions, shortlist the best and ultimately pick a winner for each category before the glamorous award ceremony.

With awards up for grabs in areas from ESG to fraud and from claims technology to claims team, there are trophies to be won for the best and brightest firms in the insurance claims sector.

But, before the period to submit entries slams shut at the end of February, Insurance Times thought it would be useful to provide five top tips to help ensure that entries are the best they can be.

1. Tailor your entries

It may sound obvious, but it’s worth reiterating that each and every one of your entries should be tailored to the exact specifications of the award category that you are entering – and succinctly answer the questions asked.

You may have a product or initiative that you are entering into multiple categories, but what the judges are looking for in the Excellence in Customer Care category will be different to what they are looking for in the Claims Service of the Year category – even if you are entering similar things into both categories.

Make sure you are intimately familiar with the descriptions of the categories that you are entering and that you are entering the categories most suitable to what you have achieved.

You can read the descriptions of each category here.

2. Evidence, evidence

It is vital that you able to back up the claims you make in your awards entries with facts, figures and data. It is also too easy to fall into the trap of over-selling a product or initiative to judges, but remember that they will be looking out for recent evidence of success. If your product has improved the claims experience for clients, for example, make sure that the impact is clear and broken down simply for judges.

For the ‘of the Year’ categories, this evidence should also be from within the period that the award is looking to reward, which is between 1 January 2024 and 28 February 2025 for this iteration of the Claims Excellence Awards. Products and projects do not need to have been launched in this period, but evidence of success from that period must be included.

Evidence from outside of this period can help support your submission, but it is vital to include facts and figures on the impact of your entry that show why it is worthy of winning a trophy that has 2025 emblazoned on it.

3. Impact focus

If you want to be recognised as the winner of one of Insurance Times much-coveted Claims Excellence Awards, then it is imperative that your entry focuses on the impact that your initiative, product, or team has had for customers or clients.

This focus should not preclude supporting evidence of how products work, how you developed initiatives or what they are intended to do, but make sure to clearly demonstrate the point of the entry early on.

Impact is often most clearly demonstrated by testimonials from impressed customers or clients and these aspects of the entry are like gold dust to judges, who can use them to easily verify the strength of the submission.

The above tips are no guarantees of success, but implementing the advice for the entry crafting process will stand you in good stead with Insurance Times’ editorial team and panel of expert judges.
