Incoming president says she is ’looking forward to supporting and working with the members and the board to deliver the CII’s clear and sensible strategy that aims to build public trust in the insurance profession’
Professional body the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) has elected Nicola Stacey, chief underwriting officer at global specialty (re)insurance firm Chaucer, as its new president, effective from 1 January 2025.
Currently acting as the CII’s deputy president, Stacey will succeed Kingfisher Insurance’s Ian Callaghan.
Commenting on the appointment, Richard Milner, chief executive at Chaucer Group, said: “It’s a great opportunity for Stacey to demonstrate her leadership and 30 years of insurance expertise to the wider industry.”
Stacey added: “I am proud to be elected the new president of the CII and would like to thank all the members who voted.
“I’m really looking forward to supporting and working with the members and the board to deliver the CII’s clear and sensible strategy that aims to build public trust in the insurance profession.”
‘Tremendous asset’
In her day job at Chaucer, Stacey is responsible for developing the company’s underwriting strategy and growing the group’s portfolio. She has worked in this role since November 2019.

Prior to her tenure at Chaucer, she worked at reinsurer Swiss Re between 2006 and 2019. She held roles such as head of risk management for property and casualty reinsurance and head of UK and Lloyd’s underwriting.
Milner added: “All Stacey’s colleagues at Chaucer are delighted to see Stacey being elected as president of the CII. We know that she will be a tremendous asset in this new role.”
