’Our primary focus will be commercial, corporate and not-for-profit clients,’ says managing director of retail
Brown and Brown Europe has opened its first branded retail insurance broking office in the UK, a statement released today (23 January 2024) said.
The new office will be based at Alderman Fenwick’s House in Newcastle and headed up by director Paul Chapman as well as account director Bradley Galloway.
Chapman will report to Neil Thornton, managing director of retail for Brown and Brown.
Thornton said the new operation would spearhead further expansion in the north of England.
“For a major city, Newcastle is underserved by broking and we want to put that right,” he said.
“Our primary focus will be commercial, corporate and not-for-profit clients, although we will look to augment this with other propositions, such as high net worth (HNW), in due course.
Recruitment
As part of the move, Brown and Brown will go on a recruitment spree to bring in new talent for its Newcastle operation.

“We are on the look-out for ambitious talent to join the team,” Chapman said.
“As we grow, the team will grow and the opportunity to become part of one of the world’s most successful brokerages will be a draw for talent looking to develop their insurance careers.”
Thornton added: “In Paul, we are lucky to have a very experienced leader with strong connections to the north east and I’m confident he will move quickly to expand the Brown and Brown presence in Newcastle and beyond.”
His career began in 2019, when he joined a local north London newspaper after graduating from the University of Sheffield with a first-class honours degree in journalism.
He took up the position of deputy news editor at Insurance Times in March 2023, before being promoted to his current role in May 2024.View full Profile
