‘These results underline the importance of improving digital accessibility and usability in the commercial motor insurance market,’ says head of schemes

Brokers are demanding improved digital tools and platform integration across the commercial motor sector, new figures have revealed.

According to data published by Direct Commercial (DCL) yesterday (15 April 2025), only 22% of brokers believe that insurers are making their products sufficiently available on software platforms.

This is despite 78% seeing online access to these products as a significant advantage when placing business. Meanwhile, 44% of brokers said that they prioritise ease of access to markets above product pricing when using digital platforms.

DCL said that these figures revealed “a clear demand for improved digital tools and platform integration among the wider insurance provision for the commercial motor sector”.

Ineffective portals

The poll, commissioned from corporate affairs agency Context Skythorn, surveyed 60 UK brokers involved in the commercial motor market between 21 October 2024 and 6 January 2025.

It also revealed that only 16% of brokers found online portals across the market provided by insurers to be user-friendly and effective for managing policies and claims.

Head of schemes at DCL, Michael Dickinson, said: “These results underline the importance of improving digital accessibility and usability in the commercial motor insurance market.

“Brokers need tools that save time and streamline processes and at DCL we are committed to investing in technology that enhances broker experience and efficiency.

“By integrating our products with the platforms brokers rely on most, we aim to simplify access and deliver market-leading service.”
