For two decades he served as an MP and MEP
The board of the British Insurance Brokers’ Association (Biba) has extended Jonathan Evans’ tenure as chair for a further three years, it announced yesterday (9 January 2022).
Evans was elected Conservative member of parliament (MP) for Cardiff North on 6 May 2010 but left the House of Commons on 30 March 2015.
Steve White, Biba’s chief executive, said: “We are all delighted that Jonathan has agreed to continue as chair.
“In these challenging times the stability of retaining our chair, who is well versed in the challenges and successes of our sector, will help us greatly to continue to deliver what our members need. I am looking forward to working with him over the coming years.”
Biba announced in December 2022 that the theme for its 45th annual conference in 2023 will be Rising to the Challenge.
Guiding Biba
Evans has served as chairman of Biba since 1 January 2020.
He has a background in law – particularly insurance law – which led to various insurance board positions.

For two decades he served as an MP and a Member of the European Parliament (MEP), however he stood down from the latter during the 2009 elections and was succeeded by Kay Swinburne.
He was formerly a corporate affairs minister at the department of trade and industry, with responsibility for the insurance industry. Evans subsequently won the Cardiff North seat.
He has also chaired the All-Party Parliamentary Group on insurance and financial services.
Evans added: “I have enjoyed the last three years immensely and look forward to working on what the coming months bring. I am proud to chair such an engaged board and for us collectively to guide the great Biba team.”
