’We’re looking back to where we’ve come from and looking forward to where we’re going next,’ says chief executive
Earlier this month (9 August 2023), insurtech unicorn Zego turned seven-years-old.
Zego is an insurtech that specialises in commercial motor insurance and its offering covers self-employed drivers and riders to entire fleets of vehicles.
In a LinkedIn post on the day it turned seven, the firm said: “To say thanks to all our Zegons [staff], we headed up to the shiny new roof terrace for food, drinks and magic tricks and plenty of party vibes.”
Zego even had a three-tier cake, decorated with cars, e-scooters and vans in keeping with it being a commercial motor insurtech.

When asked about what else the firm was doing to celebrate its birthday, chief executive Sten Saar told Insurance Times: “As we celebrate Zego’s seventh birthday, we’re looking back to where we’ve come from and looking forward to where we’re going next.
“From founding the company to getting our very first customer [and] now serving millions of hard-working people and businesses, we’ve definitely come a long way.”
The insurtech was not only the first UK insurtech to gain unicorn status in March 2021, but also the first to obtain an insurance licence in November 2019.
Saar added: “At Zego we have a much bigger vision and are far more excited about the future than the past.
“Whether that’s launching new products like our latest offering – Business Van Insurance – or moving into new geographies, we’re constantly pushing hard to offer our customers the very best service in the insurance industry.”
