The director of Carpenters Group has been doing this fundraising as ’there is nothing in Birkhead over the weekend for people struggling’
Donna Scully made a return to Insurance Times’ flagship awards event last week (6 December 2023) - and took the opportunity to take part in another dance off when invited up on stage.
The director at Carpenters Group took on comedian Alex Horne and his band The Horne Section with a river dance, raising £600 in total.
At the 2022 awards, she also got host Romesh Ranganathan busting a move on stage – he is a comedian and actor best known for standup comedy shows The Cynic and Ranganation.
60 seconds with Donna Scully
Not a stranger to working with charities, Scully has run a Sunday Breakfast Club jointly with foodbanks in Birkenhead, Wirral.
She told Insurance Times that she has been doing this for “six years for homeless people and those struggling”.
Scully continued: “We get a lot of pensioners too who come for the company. The breakfast takes place at the charity – the non-profit charity organisation Charles Thomson Mission – and we pay rent as well as fundraise for them.”
The £600 raised on the night of the Insurance Times Awards allowed Scully to give £20 each to those who attended the breakfast.
“They were so delighted and couldn’t believe people care. On my JustGiving page, I’ve raised just over £1,500, but money is still coming in,” she added.
When asked why this particular charity, Scully said: “There is nothing in Birkhead over the weekend for people struggling, so we wanted to set something up for them.”
After a friend in the insurance industry suggested that Scully dance at the awards event, she agreed it was a also a “great way to raise money”.
