‘His background combined with his experience as a results-oriented and people focused leader will be invaluable,’ says chief executive

Axa UK and Ireland has promoted Alain Zweibrucker to the role of chief executive of its retail arm, a statement released today (14 December 2023) said.

Zweibrucker will start the role on 2 January 2024 and become a member of the UK and Ireland management committee.

He will succeed Anna Fleming, who was appointed to the role on an interim basis in July 2023 – she will now return to her former position as chief operating officer at the subsidiary.

Zweibrucker said he was “delighted” to be taking up his new position.

“This is a great business with a brilliant team of experts who work tirelessly to provide the best services and products for customers,” he added.

“I’m looking forward to working together to deliver on the business strategy and continue meeting the evolving needs of customers in an increasingly uncertain world.”

Experience

Zweibrucker started his career at Axa Portugal as an actuary, before moving on to serve as property and casualty actuary director on behalf of Axa Group in Paris.

He then went on to hold a variety of senior roles at Axa Germany – including head of financial control, chief risk officer and head of property and casualty retail.

In the latter half of his 25 years spent at Axa, Zweibrucker served as the firm’s chief financial officer in Switzerland, in addition to being a member on the company’s executive committee.

In that role, he was responsible for transforming the business to encourage the delivery of growth and earnings in line with the wider group’s strategic plan.

He also drove capital management initiatives, including developing a third-party asset management business model.

In his new role, he will report to Axa UK and Ireland chief executive Tara Foley.

“Alain has a wealth of technical expertise in property and casualty insurance and a strong track record of transformation and delivery,” she said.

“This background combined with his experience as a results-oriented and people focused leader will be invaluable as we navigate a challenging market environment and continue to drive the success of our retail business.”

Foley also thanked Fleming “for doing an incredible job of leading the retail business as interim chief executive”.

“I know Anna will be a great help to Alain when he starts in the new year,” she added.
