New appointee says he ’couldn’t turn down’ the opportunity
Aviva has appointed James Hillman as its new chief risk officer, a statement released yesterday (31 May 2023) revealed.
Hillman has over 20 years of experience working in regulated roles and is currently the finance director of Lloyds Banking Group’s insurance and wealth division.
He is also the chief financial officer of Scottish Widows, the insurance arm of the bank.
Aviva said Hillman will join the insurer later this year.
Amanda Blanc, Aviva group chief executive officer, said: “James is a fantastic addition to Aviva.
“He is a highly experienced leader with a strong track-record in financial services and regulated businesses.”
’Crucial role’
Stephen Gould will continue as interim chief risk officer until Hillman joins the company.

Blanc said that Hillman will play a “crucial role as Aviva continues to grow, manage risk effectively and deliver for our customers.”
Speaking about his appointment, Hillman said he “couldn’t turn down” the opportunity.
“Aviva is a brilliant business with clear momentum,” he added.
“I look forward to working with Amanda and the wider team.”
