’Whilst there’s no need to revolutionise a very strong business, great businesses don’t stand still,’ says chief distribution officer
Allianz Commercial has created two new senior roles to help the insurer generate more opportunities with brokers and clients, a statement released today (26 July 2023) said.
The move will see Mike Thomas become director of distribution for digital and mid-market, while Andy Montgomery will take up the position of head of broker distribution management.
This came after Nick Hobbs was appointed as Allianz Commercial’s chief distribution officer earlier this year (23 June 2023).
From 1 September 2023, the newly formed UK distribution function, which is led by Hobbs, will operate across digital trading, mid-market, large corporate and speciality lines.
“To provide one face-to-market and generate opportunities with brokers and clients, two new roles have been announced,” the insurer said.
Mike Thomas
In his new role as director of distribution for digital and mid-market, Thomas will concentrate on executing the distribution strategy.

He will also join the leadership teams for mid-market and digital.
Thomas joined Allianz in 2003 and has undertaken a range of roles across the business, including within claims.
Recent senior leadership positions saw him work as branch manager for Luton, strategic account manager for national brokers, regional manager for the south east and regional manager for the south.
He moved into the role of distribution director in 2022, leading the strategic account managers and broker distribution management teams while delivering Allianz’s new broker segmentation strategy.
Andy Montgomery
Meanwhile, Montgomery will oversee delivery of the distribution strategy across the commercial branch network as head of broker distribution management.
The role will also see him provide support in developing the strategy, practices, tools and execution of the plan, with particular focus on optimising Allianz’s trading profile and reputation.
Montgomery joined Allianz in 2005 and worked across the UK business, holding account management and development roles working with corporate partners and brokers.
Most recently, he was a broker distribution manager based in the Guildford head office.
‘Exciting time’
Earlier this year, (12 July 2023), Hobbs said Allianz was looking to ensure it provided broker partners with the best outcome first time for customers after announcing a new structure aimed at simplifying the business.
This saw the insurer bring together Allianz Global Corporate and Specialty (AGCS) UK, which focuses on large clients, and Allianz Holdings’ UK commercial business under one strategy and approach.
Hobbs said the new appointments made sure Allianz was “fit for the future”.
He added: “This is an exciting time for Allianz Commercial. Whilst there’s no need to revolutionise a very strong business, great businesses don’t stand still. Appointing these experts and amending our structure will enable us to continue to be the best for our customers and ensure we’re fit for the future.
“Congratulations to Mike and Andy, I have no doubt they’ll be hugely successful in their new roles.”
