Former Aspen Re chief executive Thomas Lillelund heads up the European arm, with Anthony Baldwin taking over UK operations
AIG has appointed two senior figures to head up new separate UK and European arms of the business.
Thomas Lillelund joins as chief executive of the newly formed AIG Europe SA, while former AIG Europe Limited boss Anthony Baldwin becomes chief executive of the company’s new UK entity, AIG Group UK Limited.
AIG has established the two new entities, based in the UK and Luxembourg, to provide uninterrupted client service after Brexit.
AIG will transfer existing business to the new UK and European arms and merge its existing carrier, AIG Europe Limited, into the new European company. The two new companies will begin writing business from 1 December 2018.
Lillelund joins from Aspen Re, where he had been chief executive, and will be responsible for continental Europe and Ireland. Lillelund previously served as AIG’s regional vice president in southeast Asia.
Both Lillelund and Baldwin will report to Chris Townsend, AIG’s chief executive of international general insurance.
Townsend said: “I’m delighted to welcome Thomas back to AIG as chief executive of our European business.
“Thomas is a well-respected international insurance executive who is a strategic leader with experience growing and building teams.”
