Hiscox sells animal line
Hiscox is to sell its US animal mortality business, American Live Stock, to Markel. Under the deal, to be completed by 1 October, Hiscox will retain the insurance company and licences in 50 US states. It is also withdrawing from the inland marine market. The combined income of the two lines was less than $20m (£12.9m) in 2009. Hiscox said it will focus on its errors and omissions, specialty and property lines and continue to develop its US business.
Express woos bikers
Express Insurance is launching a social media campaign to reach out to motorbikers. Marketing agency Tamar has been hired to optimise the brand’s presence on Twitter, Facebook and YouTube. Express sponsors motorbike rider Shane Byrne and features clips of his rides on YouTube.
ECIC plugs in to Acturis
The Electrical Contractors' Insurance Company (ECIC) has teamed up with specialist insurance technology firm Acturis to deliver online tradesman products, broker-facing and direct. ECIC provides specialist cover for electrical contractors and other trades. The new auto-rated facility will support products for the existing client base.
