XL on the road again
XL is planning to follow its summer broker roadshows with a series of events in the autumn. Terry Nicol, regional manager, UK and Ireland middle markets, said the shows were likely to take place in October, but the venues were still to be decided. In May, XL hosted events in Birmingham, Manchester and Leeds to give brokers information on emerging issues, asbestos claims and the Environmental Liability Directive.

Problems such as escalating piracy, incorrect sales forecasts and stocking the wrong goods have prompted RSA to urge retailers to step up their risk management in the run-up to Christmas. RSA head of retail Des Cross said: “Christmas is a peak time for retailers and, given the difficult trading conditions, the industry needs as much help as possible to ensure everything runs smoothly. Many things can go wrong … so it is vital that retailers insure against any problems.”
New MD at Motaquote
Cullum Capital Ventures-owned broker Motaquote has appointed Nigel Lombard as its new managing director. The Welsh broker, which has 13 branches across South Wales, has a projected turnover of £8m for 2009. Lombard, who most recently worked as sales director for Cheltenham & Gloucester, said he wanted to strengthen Motaquote’s position in the broker market.
