Royal & SunAlliance (R&SA) is set to expand its direct commercial operations this year, with the addition of new products to the More Th>n Business range.
Brendan McManus, R&SA commercial director, said the More Th>n commercial suite of products was performing "very well" and that further products were expected between "now and March".
More Th>n Business currently offers products for, among other things, hotels, shops, offices and vans, along with a small business combined policy.
A spokeswoman for the insurer said it was "still considering" which products would be adapted to the direct channel. "We see growth potential for More Th>n Business, but it will be for the small end of small business."
She insisted R&SA was still committed to the broker market.
The spokeswoman added that the range of small commercial products sold direct was based around those available in its Enterprise portfolio, which is for intermediated SME business.
In terms of future SME direct products, she said: "Expect to see a parallel with Enterprise, but there will be differences."
Currently, the only products available on Enterprise - but not More Th>n Business - are professional indemnity, directors' & officers', personal accident and business travel.
