Fixed fees for lawyers set to be slashed
The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) has unveiled its proposals for the new fast-track fixed fee structure for RTA Portal claims.
The fixed fees for personal injury cases up to £10,000 submitted through the portal will fall from £1,200 to £500, according to a consultation paper issued by justice minister Helen Grant.
When the upper limit of the RTA portal is extended to £25,000, claims between £10,000 and £25,000 will have fixed fees of £800.
When the RTA portal is opened up to employers and public liability claims, fixed fees will be £900 for cases up to £10,000 and £1,600 for cases up to £25,000.
Grant suggested that when claims drop out of the portal, a fixed fee structure based on Lord Jackson’s proposals should be set up, adjusted for inflation.
The government proposals could change depending on what response Grant gets from RTA stakeholders.
