Over 100 MGA representatives attend meeting to judge support

The majority of managing general agents (MGAs) have favoured proposals to launch the Managing General Agents' Association (MGAA) trade body at an event held to gauge support for the plans.

An MGAA spokesman could not give details of specific firms at the closed event, but said the majority of representatives from 70 MGA firms were in favour of the trade body. The MGAA could be launched as early as Q1 2011.

Reg Brown, chairman of the MGAA’s steering committee, told MGAs at the event: “This is your opportunity to establish your own trade association and to take control of its future. We need a clear indication that you will support these proposals, become members and, will play your part in the future wellbeing of the MGAA. We need your mandate to continue our work.”

Towergate Underwriting is one firm that will not be joining the MGAA. Instead, it will concentrate on raising performance and standards internally, according to chief executive Clive Nathan.
