Three regulators up by January after Wednesday’s vote

The European Parliament will vote on Wednesday to finally approve the new super-regulators that will bring them in by January 2011.

This package covers a European Systemic Risk Board (ESRB) and three new European Supervisory Authorities for the financial services sector:

  • European Banking Authority (EBA),
  • European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA)
  • European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA).

The process involved a “trialogue” on 2 September between the Commission, the European Parliament and the EU Member States and endorsement by EU finance ministers at their meeting of 7 September.

The vote is scheduled to take place in Strasbourg on 22 September between 12.00 and 13.00.
