Body urges government to assess PI changes
The Motor Accident Solicitors Society (MASS) has said that the Competition Commission’s plans for probing the UK motor market will be complicated by the Jackson reforms.
A MASS spokesman said: “There are obviously significant problems in the UK private motor insurance market and we are pleased the Competition Commission will be looking at this further in the coming months.
“However, as the Competition Commission has set out clearly today, the massive changes in the personal injury sector are going to make it very difficult to assess the market and the effectiveness of the proposed measures.
“The range and pace of changes being imposed on the sector is unprecedented and could fundamentally alter the balance between defendant and claimant. It is simply irresponsible to even consider more changes to our civil justice system at the moment.
“Before proceeding any further, we strongly urge the government to conduct a full assessment of all the proposed changes – implementation of LASPO and the Jackson reforms, changes to the RTA Portal, the introduction of ABS’s and the whiplash consultation – and how their combined impact will affect the personal injury market.”
