Marsh has appointed Jeremy Cooke as managing director and senior adviser.
The company said he will have responsibility for several key activities within the London offices.
In particular, he will assist both colleagues and clients on specific placement issues and assume a leadership role managing ongoing relationships within the marketplace in London.
He will also be responsible for streamlining business processes within the market.
Cooke was previously chief executive of Wholesale Broking, in Marsh Inc.'s Underwriting Management Group.
Stephen Matanle, chairman and CEO of Marsh's Global Markets operation, said: "As someone who has served in senior broking and underwriting roles since 1969, he is exceptionally well qualified in helping us to consolidate our placement leadership position, as well as make the transaction process to and from the global insurance market more efficient."
Cooke said: "Marsh is absolutely committed to taking the lead in driving efficiency and transparency in the insurance placement process.
"While the London market has gone a long way to improve its efficiency since I first started in the industry, there is still some way to go. I look forward to playing my part in that change."
