Two private equity firms have reportedly approached Marsh and McLennan

At least two private equity firms have reportedly been in contact with Marsh and McLennan regarding the acquisition of the group.

According to a report in The Times, Kohlberg Kravis Roberts (KKR) has held talks with the broker. The proposed buy-out and privatisation of MMC would result in the group being divided into four separate business divisions, according to senior sources.

It was also recently reported that Willis had made an informal approach for the company. However, The Times has received information that at least one other private equity firm has thrown its hat into the bidding ring.

Brian Storm, Marsh chief executive, has denied that the company is for sale. Speaking to the Financial Times, however, Storm did confirm that they are looking to sell Putnam Investments.
