Calls to create a body to establish professional marine claims qualifications and improve market communications came from the first marine
claims conference.
Delegates showed overwhelming support for an organisation to help regulate the industry where a shortage of professional claims skills is becoming
increasingly evident.
Chairman of the International Marine Claims Conference David Taylor told delegates: “There is really no single professional body or association to which marine claims professionals can affiliate, associate or submit for examination in order to obtain a recognised qualification.
“There is no certification process.”
Taylor said that there was support for such an organisation from representatives of the 15 national companies who attended the conference in Dublin.
“When I asked the conference if they would support the development of such recognised qualifications the response was an emphatic yes,” he claimed.
“The marine market bemoans the fact that there is a shortage of professional claims skills, yet this deficit is largely self-inflicted.”
