M4 Underwriting has announced its intention to enter the commercial insurance market in June.

Don Oakley, managing director of M4 Underwriting, said: “We have been working closely with brokers over the past 18 months to develop our proposition.

"This is an exciting opportunity for M4 Underwriting. Initially, we will focus our activity on a small number of carefully selected brokers and offer them access to mid-market commercial property, casualty and motor fleet products.”

The chairman of M4 Underwriting is Martin Long, founder of Churchill Insurance and a former non-executive director of Royal Bank of Scotland .

Underwriting capacity is to be provided by Allianz Cornhill.

Mike Watts, director of underwriting, added: “We have secured A-rated underwriting capacity for property, casualty and motor and, in Jim McClymont, we have one of the market's leading underwriters heading up our motor fleet operation. We will be totally focused on delivering what our brokers want.”
