London, Birmingham and Manchester are the most dangerous UK cities to drive in, according to research conducted by Endsleigh.

The insurer said it had analysed more than five years of policy and claims data from across the UK to identify both the most dangerous cities, and the safest one to drive in.

The safest cities in the UK in terms of motor accidents are Belfast, Cambridge and Swansea.

The UK’s car theft hotspots are Leeds, Bristol and Manchester, Endsleigh’s research revealed, while Aberdeen Gloucester and Plymouth are the cities where vehicles are least likely to be stolen.

Endsleigh’s head of corporate communications, Stuart Wartalski, said: “This analysis is absolutely fascinating. It will no doubt provide food for thought for motorists across the country as well as for local councils and other policymakers.

“We have laid some preconceived opinions about certain towns and cities to rest, and have also identified areas where much has been done to counter the threats of motor accidents and theft.

“It is clear that some cities will need to work hard to ensure that they do not become indelibly marked as crime or accident hotspots.
