Motorists' car insurance premiums dipped or remained flat during the second half of 2001, a survey by direct insurance broker Peoples Choice shows.
Between October and December 2001, 50% of motorists saw no price increase on premiums, while 34% had a price fall.
This compares with 51% who had no increase for the period June to September 2001, and 31% who has a price fall.
Peoples Choice chief executive David Pearce said: "The news still seems to be good for motorists, but the real story will become apparent in the first quarter of 2002.
"Still, if your policy is due for renewal shortly, you will hopefully be seeing a price freeze or fall from last year."
The company reviewed 143 motor insurance rates for 11 categories of driver in 13 towns across the UK including London, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Manchester and Sheffield.
