Claims management company to improve environmental performance
Birmingham-based claims management company LAS Claims has announced its ambition to improve its long-term environmental performance and reach International Standard ISO 14001 for Environmental Management.
LAS business development director Ian Hogarth said the company wanted to improve its environmental performance over the long term, in particular by minimising its ecological footprint and carbon emissions.
“More and more insurers want evidence of good environmental management in new business discussions,” he said. “They have become much more focused on environmental best practice, and quite rightly they expect their suppliers to live up to their own high standards.”
Hogarth said the main area of business affected would be operations and the overall aim is to reduce the environmental footprint of the business. “One target is to recycle or re-use at least 90% of all damaged domestic appliances which are subject to a claim,” he said. “The business is also ensuring our surveyors, loss adjusters and building contractors are fully aware of sustainable and resilient repair options when compiling repair specifications.
“Rather than simply being a ‘nice to have’ by-product of our operations, we now want to formalise our business practices, so, in partnership with Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance (LRQA), we will start implementing the LAS environmental management system this autumn and expect to achieve accreditation with the standard in early 2013.”
