Kiln's Lloyd's subsidiary RJ Kiln & Co, said Syndicate 510 is to offer long-term and domestic war on land insurance.

It said the syndicate began underwriting the two classes on 1 January 2004.

Kiln said it was the first underwriting agent at Lloyd's to be granted permission to write the new class of insurance. The syndicate's marine and special risks division, headed by active underwriter Charles Franks, handles the new class.

Long-term and domestic war on land insurance combines multi-year international war on land insurance with domestic war on land cover.

Kiln's director of underwriting, Robert Chase, said the new class meant that Kiln could now provide a comprehensive political risk policy through Lloyd's.

"We expect to see significant interest from brokers and existing and prospective policyholders for this class of business which, to date, has not been offered in the Lloyd's market," said Chase.

"It complements well the specialist products we currently offer and will be underwritten in conjunction with the perils including terrorism, confiscation, contract frustration and exchange transfer embargo."
