Insurance Times has been awarded four prizes at this year’s Biba Journalist of the Year Awards.
Assistant editor, finance, Ben Dyson won the Trade Feature Award for his investigative piece ‘Commercial lines feel the squeeze’. The judge, Ageas chief executive Andy Watson, highlighted Ben’s “strong technical analysis combined with clear presentation on commercial lines performance”.
Outgoing assistant news editor Sam Barker was awarded the highly commended spot in Biba’s Scoop of the Year Award, judged by Aviva intermediary and partnerships director Phil Bayles. Sam was recognised for his insight into a “dominant theme in the motor insurance market” with his piece on whiplash claims.
In the finale of the awards ceremony, Sam also won the overall Biba Journalist of the Year Award. Biba chief executive Steve White praised Sam’s “fantastic insight into the market, finance, regulation and scoops. He has a way of uniquely finding and presenting the key stories in our sector.”
Sam is now going on to join sister (re)insurance title GR as deputy editor.
Also adding to Insurance Times’s wins on the day was former assistant editor Danny Walkinshaw. RSA UK mid-market director Dan Wilkinson presented him with the Trade News Award for his coverage of the sector.
Insurance Times executive editor Saxon East said: “I am delighted to see the team recognised for their hard work and talent.
“Insurance Times has been on a journey over the past year to become a truly premium insight brand for the insurance sector, and these awards show that we are succeeding in our goal to be at the heart of what matters to our market.”
