Former NHSLA chief executive in new consultant role
Law firm Weightmans has announced the appointment of former NHS Litigation Authority chief executive Steve Walker as a consultant.
Steve Walker, who is an expert in the insurance industry and the public sector, was the NHSLA’s first chief executive when he was appointed to the role in 1996. At Weightmans he will act as a consultant to the firm’s highly successful public sector business line as well as advising the firm on its ongoing strategic direction.
The firm made a turnover of £77.1m for the 2011/12 financial year, an increase of 32.5% on the previous year’s result of £58 million. Over the last year Weightmans has grown considerably, taking on teams from Vizards Wyeth in the South East and merging with Mace & Jones in the North West.
Walker said: “I have known Weightmans for a very long time and am extremely pleased to be given an opportunity to join the firm and make a contribution to its exciting plans for the future.”
Weightmans managing partner Patrick Gaul said: “We are delighted to have been able to secure this high profile appointment.
“Steve has played a major part in the development of the NHSLA and litigation in general in the UK, and has unrivalled experience of both the insurance industry and the public sector. He has an important role to play as we continue to progress and take advantage of the opportunities the changes to the legal sector will bring. ”
Steve Walker is the latest in a series of senior level recruits for Weightmans. Other appointments include Bavita Rai from the RAC, Kate Lotts from RBSi and former Barlow Lyde & Gilbert partner, Stewart Harper.
