Former Giles executive named chief operating officer of US firm’s Lloyd’s operation
Former Ink Underwriting managing director Bernard Mageean has joined US insurance group ProSight as chief operating officer of its Lloyd’s operation, Prosight Specialty Underwriters.
Mageean departed Giles-owned underwriting agency Ink on 21 November, the Financial Services Register shows.
His departure closely followed the completion of Arthur J Gallagher’s acquisition of Giles on 14 November, which included Ink.
Mageean will take up his new role at ProSight Speciality Underwriters, which manages Syndicate 1110 at Lloyd’s, on 2 December.
As chief operating officer, Mageean will be responsible for the sales, marketing and distribution management functions for ProSight in the UK. He will also develop and manage the company’s IT and operations functions.
ProSight Global chief executive Joe Beneducci said: “Bernard possesses an extensive background and proven skill set across a wide range of underwriting and distribution leadership roles throughout his career.
“We are pleased to welcome Bernard to our growing team and we look forward to his substantial impact and contributions to advance ProSight’s strategy to be the market of choice for specialty niche programmes at Lloyd’s while continuing to expand our international presence.”
Mageean is perhaps best known for his two-year stint as QBE Europe’s property managing director.
After a surprise departure from QBE in November 2010, Mageean briefly worked at Towergate networks Broker Network and Countrywide as director of insurer relations before joining Ink in May 2012.
