Ben Collett wins compensation for potential earnings.
Former Manchester United footballer Ben Collett, has been awarded more than £4.5m in personal injury compensation after his career was cut short due to injury.
The 23-year-old was 18 when he broke his leg in two places during a challenge by Middlesbrough club’s Gary Smith.
A High Court judge, said: “During his 11 years at Manchester United, he had impressed players and staff at all levels, from Sir Alex Ferguson and Gary Neville to the contemporaries who played alongside him."
Kathy Dwyer, a sports injury specialist at law firm Davies Lavery, said: “What makes this case so interesting is the compensation for potential earnings.”
The insurer for the case is not yet known. A Lloyd's spokesman said: “We are currently investigating whether a policy relating to Ben Collett is placed in the Lloyd’s market.”
