Company proclaims the creation of a "credible alternative" to the Big 4

Following the merger of Grant Thornton and RSM Robson Rhodes, the firm is pleased to announce the creation of a new cross-discipline group known as the Financial Services Group.

It will replace the old Financial Markets Group (Grant Thornton) and Financial Services practice (RSM Robson Rhodes), and will be spearheaded up by partner Ian Gorham.

The Financial Services Group has 13 Partners and a further 150 people, making it one of the largest providers of professional services to the financial services market in the UK.

The Financial Services Group encompasses practitioners across the banking, fund management, insurance, life insurance and investment industries. It also includes audit, tax and advisory capabilities and a strong presence in the pensions, private equity and hedge fund sectors.

Ian Gorham, Head of Grant Thornton's Financial Services Group, said: "Increasing our strategic offering in the marketplace has been a key driver for us over the past 12 to 18 months and the creation of this new team has helped us achieve this goal."

"With the inclusion of fund management and investment management professionals to the team, the depth, scale and access we can now offer our clients is a credible alternative to the Big 4."

The FSG represents approximately £22m of the firm's total revenue. The new group will be based at Grant Thornton's Finsbury Square office.
