Specialist liability adjuster wins major deal and is appointed to Nexus panel.
Specialist loss adjuster Garwyn will handle claims in the event of a major nuclear incident.
The company, which specialises in liability claims, has been appointed to develop the claims management plan by the Nuclear Liability Claims Working Party . The grouping consists of representatives from the Department of Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform, British Energy, Nuclear Risk Insurers and the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority.
Garwyn’s head of major loss, Keith Wise, said: “This is a prestigious contract for Garwyn and reflects our extensive experience in handling liability claims of all types and in managing major incidents.”
Nuclear Risk Insurers general manager Alan Aldridge said: “We are delighted to be working with Garwyn. Our brief demanded a firm that could deliver a solution to a wide scope of eventualities and could demonstrate a depth of experience in managing all types of liability claim scenarios.”
In a seperate development, Garwyn has been formally appointed to the liability adjusting panel of Nexus Claims, the new claims handling arm of UK Underwriting.
Meanwhile, Garwyn chief executive Declan Treanor has raised the possibility of an acquisition this year as part of the company’s growth plans.
Treanor said the company, which specialises in liability adjusting, was looking at extending its services. A bolt-on acquisition could be the vehicle for this. “You might see something in the course of the year,” he said, in an interview this week with Insurance Times.
Treanor said he was looking to take Garwyn into the top four UK adjusters. It is currently the sixth largest in the UK. According to the latest reported figures, the company posted revenues of £17m in 2006.
Garwyn has also made three senior appointments this week. David Robinshaw and Richard Moore join as liability adjusters. Robinshaw previously worked at Woodgate & Clark and SLS, while Moore was previously with Watersheds.
Colin Langford joins as a liability claims handler from Eversheds solicitors.
Garwyn completed a management buy-out from QBE in 2005.
