Paul Thorburn tries his hand in the insurance sector
Welsh rugby legend Paul Thorburn has joined South West Wales broker, Antur Insurance, as an external business development consultant.
Thorburn’s role at Antur will be to drive business growth by bringing in new commercial leads and building on new and existing client relationships across a range of industry sectors.
After a successful career in professional rugby, during which he earned 37 caps for Wales and set a world best with his 70-yard penalty, Thorburn moved on to become a special projects manager for the WRU and in 1999 was tournament director for the World Cup.
In 2006 he joined the Ospreys as strategic development manager but left in June this year to pursue other interests.
Thorburn said: “I’ve always loved a challenge and am really looking forward to trying my hand at something new. Hopefully my business contacts will be helpful in sourcing new business opportunities.”
John Knox, chairman of Antur, said: “We are thrilled that Paul is joining the company, as we are sure that his knowledge and experience will help us generate new leads and support our business growth.
"At Antur we place a lot of importance on being a local company so it is important to us that Paul has such strong ties to the area. We are all looking forward to working with him.”
