A female underwriter who claims to have lost out on £2m worth of shares after taking maternity leave has reached an out of court settlement with her former employer.
Jane Hayes, 39, was a senior underwriter with Charman Underwriting Agencies, specialising in writing onshore and offshore risks, who lost an employment tribunal three years ago when she claimed she was "robbed" because male colleagues received £4m in share options, compared to her £2.5m.
Hayes had won the right to appeal but before a new employment tribunal was convened she reached an agreement with the company. Lawyers said she could have won up to £1.5m on the grounds of equal pay and sexual discrimination.
